AC/DC Diesel Powered Generator Set

The AVERO™ diesel powered generator sets are light weight, compact, fuel efficient, and extremely rugged. These small, Polar-Lite Canadian developed generator sets are designed for Arctic winter conditions. They are the only diesel generator set that can be left exposed to Arctic winter conditions for several months and then be hand started at temperatures down to -46°C without any battery assistance or flammable/volatile starting fluids. This system is based on AET's patented low temperature starting aid (LTSA). The generator set can be used for search and rescue operations, since its operation with diesel fuel permits it to be flown safely. With the AET patented intake air heating system (IAHS) these diesel engine driven generator sets produce significantly lower unburned hydrocarbons and particulate emissions than other small, air cooled, diesel engines.

AET would like to acknowledge the contract funding provided by the the Department of National Defence/Directorate Field Support Equipment Program Management and the Department of Fisheries and Oceans/Canadian Coast Guard - Central and Arctic Region. AET is also grateful for the technical guidance, organizational help and encouragement provided by their technical representatives.

Diesel Powered Generator Sets
  • Hand Startable down to -46°C (no batteries to maintain or rely on) - Uses a Patented Diesel Fuel Fired Intake Air Pre-heater
  • Lightest Diesel Driven Generator Set - 50 kg (110 lbs) (Due to Permanent Magnet Alternator and Avoidance of a Coupling Between Alternator and Engine and Avoidance of a Battery and Starting Motor)
  • Versatile Electric Output - 110/240 VAC and 12/24VDC or Simultaneous Combinations of the four Voltages and two Frequencies, 50 or 60 Hz
  • No Need to Operate Only at 3600 rpm at Low Electrical Loads - Unlike Conventional Generator Sets (Hence Lower Fuel Consumption at Low Loads)
  • No Need to Change Fuel Injection Timing at Low Temperatures - Unlike Conventional Diesel Driven Generator Sets (one injection timing for +50 to -46°C)
  • High Fuel, Combustion and Emissions Efficiency - By Use of an Intake Air Pre-heating System
  • Can Be Stored at -46°C for Several Months and Will Hand Start after About Five Minutes of Pre-heating
  • Uses Diesel Fuel Which Does Not Deteriorate (Even After Several Years of Storage) - Unlike Gasoline
  • Uses Arctic Grade Diesel Fuel in Winter (P50) and Diesel Fuel (#2D) in Summer
  • Transported Safely by Air & Marine Modes (Due to Favourable Flash Point of Diesel Fuel)
  • Air Dropped - Can be Packaged for Search and Rescue Applications
  • Unusually Long Durability Life - Can Anticipate Est. 6,000 hours of Durability Life Relative to 500 to 1000 hours for a Gasoline Engine Driven Generator Set
  • Unusually Low Maintenance Requirements
